Burchett Tops $100,000; Hutchison Ready to Toss Hat in Ring
A news release from the Burchett campaign today describes a "growing campaign momentum" for the State Senator.
Burchett was the only announced candidate seeking the Knox County Mayor's office next year until late Tuesday afternoon.
Former Knox County Sheriff Tim Hutchison filed an "Appointment of Treasurer" report with the Knox County Election Commission. He named C Dewitt Ingram as his treasurer. This allows Hutchison to begin raising money for the 2010 campaign.
Several other names have been floated in relation to the Mayor's race including former TV owner Lewis Cosby and former School Board member Steve Hunley.
Below is Burchett's news release.
Burchett Breaks the $100,000 Mark
(Knoxville, TN) In another sign of growing campaign momentum, Knox County mayoral candidate State
Senator Tim Burchett announced today that the campaign’s bank account has exceeded $100,000.
“Money is far from the only indication of a strong campaign, but for a county candidate to break the $100,000
mark this early in the cycle is very encouraging and deeply appreciated.” Burchett said. “Our message of
moving this county in a new direction is being heard and the fact that we have received contributions ranging
from $5.00 to $1,000 tells me we are on the right track.”
In addition to raising funds, Burchett is actively engaging voters every day. “I’ve been knocking on doors and
meeting with voters since July. I’m asking people to put their trust in me, and I believe that means I need to be
out earning that trust every day.
Burchett added, “It takes time, and if you’re serious about really listening to the voters, you have to commit
yourself early and stick with it, but that should be what campaigns are all about.”
Burchett is seeking the Republican nomination for Knox county mayor in the May 4, 2010 primary. Early voting
starts April 14.
